About me

I am a multi-faceted person… though I suppose we all are.

My first love is horses, and I started riding at a really early age. Horses are a huge part of who I am so… you’re gonna see some pics of me with horses on this page.

I love horses and I also love so many other things in this life… the sunlace shadows on the wall… the whisper of the trees on a hot summer day…

I love words and language. I started learning languages in high school, where I took Spanish and German. Then in college, French and Russian. After college, more French, some HTML and CSS. Languages of a different sort.

Music is another language of a different sort.

I started learning music as a child, the flute. Then choir in high school. Then piano, guitar, autoharp, mandolin, fiddle, in that order. Whatever instrument ends up in my hands, I try to play. Playing is fun. See?

I’m in a band, and we are called The Moonshine. You can check us out on my Music page. We’ve been a band for over a decade now. Folks have come and gone, but always left their mark on our sound.

Obviously, I love writing. Always have, always will. I’m not much for writing fiction. It is words for me. Words that charm me, words that rattle around in my head. I wish I could say the same about stories… if I had both I could write some killer fiction! But it’s ok. I like writing non-fiction.

I picked up my first SLR camera in 1998, and became a professional photographer in 2011. I did it for 11 years. I learned an incredible amount and grew so much as a photographer and as a human. I built a whole business. But ultimately, what I loved about photography was taking and editing pictures. And being a business owner is more marketing and management and stress. Don’t get me wrong, I like those things (well not the stress), but not shouldering it all myself, and not 60 hour weeks. What’s that they say? Something like, it gets lonely at the top.

So I got a job and started living the stress-less life. And it has been real nice. I shoot sometimes. Just what I want.

I’ve always been into visual arts and crafts. I painted for a while, made macrame wall hangings, made leather goods. I would do all those things if I had more time and a work space. Most of my time is with my horse and making music, to be honest. That’s okay, I’m happy with those things.

At 28, Fatima still gives me soft eyes, even though I’ve only seen her a handful of times in the last 15 years. It’s been so strange seeing her age so much faster than me. She now has gray hairs in her face!

In 2022 I started taking acting classes. I wanted to be an actor when I was a kid, so I thought I should revisit that as an adult and see how it feels. It has helped me grow as a human.

I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest - Portland, Oregon to be exact - with my husband Michael, our two cats Cecilia and Buddy, and my mare, Bella. I have lived other places in the world, but there is no place like home. And home is wherever the heart is. And I guess my heart is in the Pacific Northwest.
