I hit the road with my band again 2 weekends ago. And of course had to shoot some of the cool architecture I found along the way. All photos below were shot and edited on my iPhone 5.

We arrived at the Adrift Hotel with plenty of time to settle in our rooms and set the stage:

I love the modern, simple feel of the interior design of the hotel rooms. Clean lines and muted tones give a cool, airy feel to the rooms that is utterly appropriate for the Pacific coast. The lights are particularly notable - large unique incandescent bulbs hang from simple plywood fixtures. Also notable for this hotel is that they use re-fillable bottles of all natural toiletries and locally made hand soaps wrapped not in plastic but in wax paper. The Moonshine believes in sustainability and we were happy to play at a hotel that shares our values.

Our show was at the hotel's restaurant, Pickled Fish. The stage is set in front of a wall of windows - fantastic views, but fortunately they had curtains to stop the sound reflection as it was creating some dreadful feedback.

We had some time for exploring and the Adrift has loaner bikes for guests so we hopped on and headed for the Sou'wester Lodge, to see about possibly booking a future show and so Susanna could check in with some friends.

My earliest homes were trailers and trailer parks, so I have a soft spot for trailer life. It's a fantastic way to live on a tight budget if you're content with few belongings and small spaces. Vintage trailers have a lot to teach about making the most of available space without sacrificing style. The white walls and ceiling and light tones of this small trailer bounce light to prevent that cave-like feeling.

The African Queen model sleeps 6 and has a relatively spacious living room and kitchen.

My most exciting moment was discovering that they have a Spartan Imperial Mansion. I've long dreamed of living in one of these babies.

The exterior is all aluminum. The interior is smartly laid out with a big enough living room, kitchen with 4 burner stove and plenty of cabinet space for 2, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with toilet and shower.

The best part? The wood paneling EVERYWHERE and built-ins throughout for plenty if storage and nooks for personal items like chotchkes and books.

This is half of the kitchen, and the tile wall contains a pull out spice rack/food storage cupboard that hides inside the wall, steps from the food prep area. That's some smart use of space!

The Sou'wester also has a large house with rooms available. The honeymoon suite was quite charming. this is half the bedroom, it also includes a living room with kitchenette.

We had a fantastic show that night and were treated really well by the staff at the Adrift. If you're looking for a getaway, Long Beach has great options for all budgets and style preferences.

2 days later after a show in Eugene at Sam Bonds, and an all night drive, we arrived at Cob Cottage Company in Coquille, OR, a natural building education center. They host programs and give workshops on natural building. I did have my full sized camera with me for this one, but here's a sneak preview of the place, shot on my iPhone as were all of the above images:
