Lipizzaner Foals Part 2

The other Lipizzaner foal from my day at the Lipizzaner farm! This one is a little older and starting to lose her bay baby coat. Lipizzaner’s are always born non-gray but quickly shed their foal coat and turn gray. Every once in a while, you get one that doesn’t turn gray.

Lipizzaners are one of my favorite breeds, and their history is really interesting. When I studied abroad in Russia, I decided to go to Austria for part of my fall break and visit the Royal Lipizzaner Stud in Austria. Tip: Skip the actual performance if you’re on a budget (at the time it was 60 euros) and opt instead to watch a practice session for 20 euros. Afterwards, you’ll get a Q&A with the trainers. A much better deal! Also, the guided barn tour was really fun and interesting!
